Gravity Forum Constitution
One thing that makes us such as unique community is our democratic process and that is something I think we should conserve. As Management I feel I'm in a position of power when really I want Gravity to flourish by the hand chosen by you guys. I like the position I'm now of development so I'm making a revolutionary change for us: the Gravity Forum Constitution.

The Constitution is a set of rules laid down by myself as Management that are the strict rights and processes we hold dear here on Gravity, whilst allowing those in power to make changes that will be beneficial to the community. The great thing about this Constitution is that it cannot be changed by any administrative member but only by vote of the community...
Article 6.1

# SECTION 1: Amendments to this here Constitution requires approval by the Community in the form of a three (3) day poll vote in a thread entitled "[CHANGE] Amendment" in Gravity Hall.

The full draft of the Constitution has been attached to the bottom of this post.

The Constitution comes into affect next Term (17th of June) with the newly elected Named Director if no concerns are brought up about it. But because we have such a thing now there is no real reason for Management to be in affect. So come this Term I'll be resigning to a secretive position where I'll continue development but also be in a position where I can step in at any time if any Constitutional rules are broken. The Management user group will be the Named Director user group. Included in the Constitution is the new democratic process.

The democratic process change
We will now be using the Single Transferable Vote system. This ensures the community has an accurate representation when the votes are counted up. For a full explanation of how this vote system works here's a very helpful video...

Community experience and advancement
We're a Community and it's our biggest trait, and to ensure that each member knows they are a member of the community there is now a process to go through in order to be recognised as one. There is no list or user group for this but a simple emoticon to represent your membership of the community. The Constitution has laid out the requirements in order to be recognised as a member of the community...
Article 5.1

# SECTION 1: Each registered account may be recognised as a Member of the Community if that account actively participates in discussion, has made several friends on Gravity, has a forum avatar and signature, shows a general interest in the Community and its advancement, and actively takes interest in the democratic process, although not all of these are required.

I don't think I really need to make hints of who I consider to be members of the community because you should know who you are  You might notice that myself and Bug both have emoticons already as a representation of this, although Bug got his emoticon early because he helped me fix the badge system :)
:ferby: :austin:

This hopefully allows the community to be one of itself without the need of me being here, like I have felt I have needed to be. I've included myself in the Constitution as a sort-of life-line if no Named Director candidate comes forward, although I don't think that will ever be a problem. I will, of course, still be the one who will count and verify votes this June to ensure our democratic process is upheld :)

I hope you're having a nice weekend,
- Scott Cummins (Ferby) :ferby:

EDIT: The constitution has been moved to http://gravityforum.net/pages/constitution/

Looks good :) . I particularly like the decision to switch to STV, because it's a far superior system to first past the post!

(Now, if only Westminster would do the same....)

A couple of small things: I'd suggest making an amendment from "Private Message" to "Personal Message" before this Constitution comes into effect as PM technically and originally meant this, and can be read by those with Admin CP access after purchasing ZB Premium.

Place this Constitution on a separate webapge as the current one is hard to read.

Amend the current Code box so it doesn't stretch the board on Full Reply.

My two cents,

I was planning on doing this when the final draft was done but I'll do this today.

So. Many. Words.

You must have had a lot of free time. The video is nice though and at least I know I'm not the only guy who read the whole thing. :P

Yeah...that's all. Good work (and I certainly know a bunch of things now)...but I don't see a normal member bothering to read through all of that.

I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to read it unless they're apart of the administrative team  But everyone has a right to, of course.

One of the reasons I wanted to ensure a fair voting system was the last UK general election. If 7000 green voters had voted Labour then the Tories wouldn't of had a majority. Tactical and strategic voting shouldn't be a thing in a fair society, and that's something I desperately wanted to promote here.

Or they just want to check something out in a particular circumstance.
